No 1 Way to Capture a Girl’s Heart

Be a cute baby animal.

Not all of our Hen’s weekend was spent chopping wood, watching and cooing over animals and creeping up on Kangaroos.

We went to the beach, climbed some rocks, visited a winery or two, the cheese factory, the chocolate factory and feasted on some amazing fresh food. We watched Disney movies, got Pygmy drunk (ha ha she thought she only had one glass of wine, meanwhile Sarah kept on filling it up), talked R Rated material and then politics.

The highlight was definitely Saturday night fro aroun 11pm till 2am, when a sight never seen before occured.
Ongy and myself strangely were both wearing tight lycra pants under our jarmies, and lycra singlets under our tops.
Best friends think alike much?

So we stripped down, till we were shiny and tight and looked particularly heinous – apparently my shiny silver tights won award for worst item of clothing. All we needed now, was Pygmy in her baggier and less lycra tights, the Bride to be, and some amazingly awesome eighties music. It all started off with some dirty dancing…

“I’ve had the time of my life”

Too many leg kicks to count, too much laughing, some interesting smells.. ha ha.. some towel whipping and thankfully a pygmy who couldn’t put the flash on (YES – No one will ever see).

Oh.. and we also had a feast!

If only it was still the weekend…

Not your average girls…

My best friend is a soccer player, I am a hockey player.
An observer would probably call us” tom boys”, we prefer to call ourselves “well rounded”.

So I mentioned that our house had a fire place, which meant we needed wood. LOTS of it.
Insert suburban girls learning the art of cutting wood. In Sarah’s case a first, in my case – a change from using table saws, band saws and drop saws…

The result – some really good entertainment value.

HOCCUM

Myself and the girls have certainly upgraded in luxury since we last did the Traditional Hen’s Weekend Down South. The place we had this time was HUGE! Massive plot of farm land, massive old house with fire place (our favourite), three bedrooms, two lounges and two bathrooms. MAGIC. Had enough beds for 9.. We are SO going back.

Here is where we spent out time.

Now, some of you might remember a few months ago, I was travelling across Aus with some lovely Canadians from Skate 4 Cancer. Well, the whole time they were on the road, they were looking for kangaroos, and NEVER saw one. Jamie from The New Beat, is convinced they are made up. This video of a small portion of the kangaroos which were in our yard is for them.

Second Place

So I didn’t really finish my post previously on this year’s State Youth Games.

From the title. you can see that we once again got second place, and hurray a trophy.
The team that beat us, once again had practically double the amount of competitors than we did, thus entering in more events, so per person in the team, we really were the winners.

We won the Indoor Soccer for the first time ever, and it was the most competitive sport ever.
We had gotten a terrible draw, and had to play the two best teams in the comp.

We drew 0 – 0 with Kingley, and managed to sneak in a goal to beat Churchlands by 1-0.
We drew another game, that we should have really won 0 -0, but luckily smashed Imprint an impressive 5-0.

Thus will an infinite goal average as no goals were conceeded (even when I was goal keeper for a game), we found ourselves in the final against Churchlands.

It was tight. We were equally matched. Both teams had no female subs which meant us girls had to play the entire time, and had played every minute of this tournament so far.
I had to visit the first aid station after every game for all of my injuries sustained (I’m still trying to grow back some skin on my knees), so we were all pretty tired.

It was a physical and quick game. We had more shots on goal, but their goalie was good.
Half time, it was 0-0.
Full time it was 0-0.
Extra half time 0-0
Extra full time 0-0.

So now we have penalty shootouts. Every person on the field has to shoot, and the goalie cannot be swopped.
This was nerve racking.

However we managed to sink three into the back of the net, and they failed to get even one, and we were declared champions.
OH WHAT A FEELING.

Still no goals conceeded. We won the sport we had always wanted to win, convincingly.

On a less than happier note, I didn’t manage to retain the tennis title. We lost in the quarters to the eventual winners (even though we were equally matched) due to time restrictions, and it was going with service, and we were receiving.
NEXT YEAR RIGHT?

Great Weekend. We’re super stoked to come back next year with an even better team.
Can’t flipping wait!

Another one bites the dust..

Out of our close friends of five, the second is about to get married.
Exciting isn’t it?

We’ve been looking forward to it for a while.

Clare has been very very busy making last minute arrangements and payments for the big day which is next month. Here is a cute letter from her to her finance.

Our group tradition is just before one of us is married off, we take a girly weekend (I guess it would be the Hen’s night equivilent) down south to Margaret River. One of our favourite places.
The land of wineries, caves, cheese and chocolate factories and beautiful forest and bushland.

I’ve already told my coach I’m unable to play that weekend – and he replied with – as long as you make the most of it, and consume lots of alcohol. Yeah good one coach! ha ha.

Not just boys fun

So we had another long weekend surf trip, and I again plucked some groms from my school and carted them along for the ride.

Destination: Horrocks – 6 hours north.
Wave Forecast : 4m Swell.
Weather : Darn nice.

The only problem is, we left on Friday and Saturday night I had a hockey match.
So most of saturday for me was spent on the highway, 12 long hours…

The hockey match was tight, and closely matched.
At half time it was still nil-nil.
15 minutes in, they scored the first goal of the match in an unlucky short corner.
A good ten minutes later we managed to equalise, with a great goal.
Two minutes later, with some exceptional running, we went up by a goal.
There was 2 minutes left of the match, and due to a bad call we had a short corner awarded against us.
Unfortunately they managed to convert this to a goal, making the score 2 all with just over minute remaining.
We managed to get into their circle, and with 7 seconds remaining, missed their goals by about a cm.

So depressing, as we should have won.

Back to surfing…
Sunday arvo, myself and two of the other female leaders, Bri and Liss decided to take all the younger girls out, for a sesh with no boys.
This was the first time I’ve actually only gone out with girls.

It’s certainly very different. For one, there’s a lot more screaming (okay, so the groms we had were inexperienced and didn’t like big waves). Liss and I were out the back catching the huge waves, and it was so funny watching the waves hit these girls closer to the shore (and a lot smaller) and seeing 6 boards go flying in the air as they all get wiped out).

I caught this one wave, and was riding it, and all of a sudden I got hit in the back of the head by a surfboard.
Ow.

Afterwards we found a road side shower, and found some shampoon and conditioner in one of the cars and 8 of us girls all jumped into the shower at once.

To say we stopped traffic was an understatement. ha ha. Even the cops came by to see what was up.
Good times girls, good times.

Their antics shock me!

That’s all folks..

So, you heard it here first.
The skate 4 cancer, australian skate is over.
It’s the first time that the team has not finished an across country skate.

Why now?
Well, Rob got sideswiped by a car and damaged his groin. The clutch of the van then blew.
Recovery for the van = 1 week.
Recovery of Rob = 4 – 6 weeks..
And then the outback awaited… Just wasn’t worth it.

Here’s the video to find out more…

Have heart though, the Aus skate will begin again March 2011..
Stay tuned for more..

Tonight is my last night with the skate 4 cancer team, before we depart and fly out to our respective homes tomorrow…
It truly is bittersweet.

I’m gonna miss this.
